Richard Eugene Howard, Sr. passed away June 20, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born July 7, 1936 to the late Wesley Edward Howard and Martha Alice Dilts Howard in Denver, Colorado.
At the age of 13, his deep love for the Double Bass was forged, when he began studying under the tutelage of Alex Horscht. Richard served in the U.S. Air Force, where he played the Tuba while stationed at Craig Air Force Base. It is there, where he met his wife, Janet. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing with his son, Richard. He was a proud member of The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra for 30 years and played Double Bass. He also worked at the Scale House at Hammer Mill for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Gravlee Wise Howard and his brother, Thurman R. Howard.
He is survived by his children, Donna Howard (George) Chancey, Richard Eugene (Teresa) Howard, Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Howard (Greg) Alexander; grandchildren, Julia Howard (Shawn) Jamison, William Cody (Abigail) Howard and Diana Kaylene (Bo) Hoffman; brother, William (Pat) Howard and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has made the decision to forego a funeral, per his wishes, and have a quiet family ceremony at the cemetery. If anyone feels led to do so, we ask only for donations to Alzheimer’s Research or The American Stroke Association.
