Alma Leach

June 23, 1915 — April 9, 2013

Alma Hester Leach, age 97, died April 9, 2013. She was born June 23, 1915 in Selma, Alabama to William and Eunice Hester.
A graduate of Selma High, she married Cecil Onus Leach, Jr. in November of 1938. They were happily married for 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Bernice Rice, and her son, William Cecil "Billy" Leach.
She is survived by her sons Alan Ray Leach (Janet) and Terry Hester Leach (Chris), her daughter-n-law, Jean Anne Leach Shumate (Randy) and her grandchildren Chris Leach (DeDe), Robert Leach(Lisa), Scott Leach, Cooper Leach (Roberta), Savannah Leach, Tom McCowan and Carrie McCowan. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews and 9 great grandchildren.
She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Selma.
Alma worked in banking in for over 34 years and retired as assistant vice president from First Alabama Bank. After retiring, she worked another 15 years at the Smitherman Historic Building. She was a member of the Elkdale Garden Club and served as a pink lady.
She loved cooking, gardening, art and playing cards and dominos with her many dear friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family thanks all of the staff at Cedar Hill Assisted Living. Alma enjoyed all of her friends, who worked and lived at Cedar Hill, especially her neighbors on the hill.
The visitation will be held at Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home in Selma from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013 followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 325 Lauderdale St., Selma, AL 36701.
