Andrew Oxford Smith, age 83, of Eclectic, Ala., passed away February 15, 2018. He graduated from Orrville High School and attended Auburn University. Following service in the Army, he completed a bachelor's degree from Auburn University and later earned a master's degree of religious education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was deeply committed to faith formation in college students and dedicated his life to collegiate ministry, ultimately retiring from the Alabama Baptist State Convention. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Luther and Dorothy Gene Oxford Smith, and sister, Annezell Smith Gafford. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Ann Parish Smith; children, Andrea Smith (Daniel) Acker, and Andrew Oxford (Elizabeth) Smith, Jr.; sister Al Sandra Smith Freeman; grandchildren, Sydney Christine Acker (Micah) Ferrill, Hayden Elizabeth Acker, Robinson Daniel (Hannah) Acker, Andrew Oxford Smith, III and Katherine Carter Smith, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at Auburn First Baptist Church on Sunday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Auburn First Baptist Church College Ministry, 128 East Glenn Avenue, Auburn, AL 36830.
