Ann Y. Till, 84, widow of Wood Till, Jr., died December 17, 2019.
She is survived by her children; Bruce (Marge) Till, Woody (Cheryl) Till, and Terri (Billy) Watts; grandchildren, Davis Till (Alisha and her son, Zachery), Lara Till, Johnny (Shannon) Watts, Ivy (Austin) Cook, and Olivia (Charlie) Rhodes; sister, Judy Biggs; in-laws, Bud Griffith, Willette York, Nell Madaris, and Jerry Till and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents were Jimmy and Dewey York, and although she was born in Claude, Alabama, she spent much of her early years in and around Montgomery. She graduated from Lanier in 1953, and as a D.O. student, worked for White Roofing Company until a blind date with a young, single farmer from Braggs led to marriage and her transformation from a city girl to a farm wife for 57 years.
Wood and she breathed new life into two farms, the first located in Prattville on Washington Ferry Road and the second, where she spent most of her life, in Kings Landing near Selma. She continued there after Wood’s 2011 passing until 2016 when she became a resident at Cedar Hill. She was known as a loving, hardworking individual whose goal was to leave things better than she found it. She was always encouraging, cooking great meals for the family and friends, especially for those that “showed up” at that right time of the day, cross-stitching, and sewing.
The family knew that her ultimate purpose in life was to be Wood’s help-meet, a job she did flawlessly, except, he said, for turning his children into Baptists. She and her family are members of First Baptist Church in Selma. She has long looked forward to going to His home, which she did today.
A family burial service is planned at the Sardis Cemetery at Shiloh Baptist Church at 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019. At 10:30, a memorial service will be held in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church in Selma with Dr. Jerry W. Light, Sr. officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Davis Till, Johnny Watts, Austin Cook, Charlie Rhodes, Chuck Madaris, Dan Till, George Till, Roger York, Deke Brown, and Jake Brown.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one’s favorite charity or to the employee Christmas Fund at Cedar Hills located at 1300 Old Orrville Road, Selma, Alabama 36701.
The Till family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Cedar Hill’s friends and staff for its love and care of Ann during these last several years.
