Arthur Olson

Art Olson died unexpectedly July 16, 2015. He was born on a rural farm in Minnesota March 21, 1923. He is predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Ida Olson, his first wife, June States Olson, sister Eileen Olson Thompson, his brother Wilbert Olson, and his stepson Charles David Glass. He is survived by his wife Clara Glass Olson, children Patty Olson Dart (Thomas), Montgomery, AL, James Arthur Olson (Jenni), Denver, CO, stepchildren, Brenda Glass Zeigler, Montgomery, AL, Carol Glass Clements (Kevin), Monroeville, Al, Donna Glass Bates (Mickey), Lawrenceville, Ga, grandchildren Suzanne Dart Booth (Scott), Allison Elizabeth Dart, Brian James Olson, Sarah States Olson, step-grandchildren Elizabeth Zeigler Taylor (Clay), April Zeigler, Phillip Reed Zeigler, Bryan Glass, Jordan Glass, Garrett Glass, Laura Bates, and Phillip Bates, 6 great grandchildren, and his sister Agnes Marian Klein.

He was born and raised on a farm in rural Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his military service he married June States and worked in the dairy industry in Vermont, later moving to Anniston, Alabama with their 2 children. He later moved to Selma and continued in the dairy industry with Cloverleaf Industries.

After the death of June, he married Clara Glass Olson in 1994. While living in Selma he has been very active in community, civic and social affairs. He served on many boards, including West Central Alabama Easter Seals serving as chairman of the board, Salvation Army Board, meals on wheels, as well as many others. He was a very active member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church). He was a very proud member of the Friday morning prayer group at Cornerstone, serving as "biscuit chef". He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with his many friends.

A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (First Presbyterian Church) in Selma, Alabama at 2:30 PM, Sunday, July 19, with Dr. Jerry Gunnels officiating with Lawrence Funeral Home directing services. Immediately following the service, visitation with family will follow in the Warren room at the church. The family requests memorials gifts be made to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
