Aubrey was born in Leeds, Alabama, May 29, 1925, to James Thomas and Ida Viola Harkins Guinn. Aubrey died at his home in Selma, January 29, 2012 after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence, Herman, Willis, Earnest and sisters Eulah Voltz and Beulah Stone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty Rogers Guinn; 3 children, Charlotte Burkhardt (Charles Henry) of Birmingham, AL, Pheaton Guinn, Jr. (Patti) of Madison, AL, and Alicia Florence (Rick) of Houston, TX.
Survivors also include 8 grandchildren, Chad Burkhardt (Heather) of Dayton, Ohio, Katy Haley (Jamie) of Helena, AL, Russell Florence of Chicago, IL, Erin Pratt (Jason) of Fayetteville, TN, Lindsey Whitecotton (Danny) of Clifton Park, NY, James Thomas Florence of Houston, TX, Taylor Catherine Guinn and Carson Guinn of Madison, AL and 5 Great Grandchildren, Chase, Hannah and Carter Burkhardt, Ella Kate Pratt and Burkleigh Haley.
Mr. Guinn owned A. Guinn Sign Service. He painted highway billboards, business signs, and many cars and vehicles for the City of Selma. He was a proud veteran having served his country in three branches of the U. S. Military - the U.S. Navy, U. S. Army and U.S. Air Force - during World War II and the Korean conflict. Aubrey enlisted in the Navy one day before his 18th birthday and served in the Pacific Theater from 1943 - 1946 on the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. In February, 1950, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and completed his military service as a member of the Air Force with an honorable discharge in August of 1953. Mr. Guinn was a lifetime member of Elkdale Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 26 and the Selma VFW Post 3016.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Lawrence Brown Funeral Home. Family will receive guest beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will be at Pineview Gardens immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Elkdale Baptist Church, Cahaba Hospice or your favorite charity.
Aubrey - known as Pappy to his family - will be deeply missed.
