Barbara Milner

Barbara Brislin Milner, born on April 25, 1922 to the late Ned and Bessie Brislin, passed away on April 25, 2014.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Milner and her brother, Henry Judson Brislin. Her parents Bessie Watson Brislin and Ned Brislin also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Milner is survived by her daughters, Bebe Milner Parker (James F. Parker, Jr., deceased) Beverly Milner; 2 grandchildren, Barbara Irene Parker and James Franklin Parker III(Charli); and 1 great grandchild, James Timothy Parker; nieces Betty (Keith) Glass, Becky (Ray) Nelson, Tina (Dennis) Sudduth and nephew Jud Brislin, Jr. and Cousin J. Hans Poulsen, Jr.


Growing up in Selma in First Baptist Church, she participated in many church activities. There were several pastors through the years, such as Dr. Davidson and Dr. McCrummen. As she attended Selma City Schools, she was a member of the first senior class who graduated from the brand new Parrish High School in 1940. She then attended Judson College with a scholarship during the war years and completed Judson in 1944 with a teaching degree in English and a minor in music. During these years, she was still a member of First Baptist Church.

She began her teaching career at Carlowville High School, which was an enjoyable experience through her years there. In 1958, she and her husband, Walt, moved to a new school - Southside Middle School. They remained there the rest of their teaching careers. During their teaching career, the school became a high school. They were members of Shiloh Baptist Church. She taught 32 years in the Dallas County School System.

Graveside services will be in Live Oak Cemetery, Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Jamie Parker officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Steve Spivey, George Denmark, Tommy Beach, Tory Jones, Dennis
Sudduth and Kyle or Corey Sudduth.
