Becky Casey Rives passed away September 13, 2023 at the age of 68. She was born December 16, 1954 to the late Ralph Cecil Blanton and Janis Rush Blanton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Blackwelder Casey and later husband, Jesse Andrews Rives.
She is survived by her children, Matthew (Meredith) Casey, Whitney (Braden) Cook, Mary Susan (John Brian) Hale and Drew (Brady) Rives; grandchildren, Cecilia Cook, David Cook, Edwyn Cook, Brody Crovato, Rives Crovato, Coleman Rives and Walton Rives; sister, Renée (Jack) Callen and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Becky earned her BSN and MSN from the University of Alabama, Birmingham and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Becky loved people and served many years at Selma Medical Center before becoming an instructor and Director of the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Wallace Community College, Selma. She served for thirty-two years in the program and during her tenure, the program was recognized as one of the top nursing programs in the state of Alabama.
One of Becky's joys was spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Gammy" and “Bec Bec”. She loved plants, animals and spent much of her time outdoors. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Selma.
A celebration of Becky's life will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Selma with Dr. Jerry Henry officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will begin receiving friends at the church at 2:00 p.m., prior to the service. Becky will be laid to rest at New Live Oak at a private service.
Pallbearers will be Mike Simpkins, Robert Simpkins, Blanton Callen, Will Casey, Jackson Casey and Gray Cogle. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyle Smith, Smitty Smitherman, Tim Wood, Johnny Morris and Dr. Nicholas Knight.
