Bessie Swicegood Curb, age 91, passed away June 16, 2010 at Perry County Nursing Home in Marion, Al. She was born June 16, 1919 to Gladwin and Edith Drake Swicegood. She attended schools in Crab Orchard and Old Hickory, Tennessee and graduated from Greensboro High school in Greensboro, AL. She attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN. In 1940, she married Walter Allen Curb, Sr. and became the mother of two children. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and painting.
Being the first known Church of Christ member in Greensboro and faithful Christian, she and her husband were instrumental in starting a congregation in Greensboro. She remained dedicated to the Lord until her death.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Walter A. Curb Sr.; son, Walter A. Curb Jr.; infant granddaughter, Kimberly Renee Tidmore and son-in-law, James E. Elliot Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty C. Elliot; daughter-in-law, Elaine Smelley Curb; her grandchildren, Steve Tidmore (Penny), Regina LeBlanc (Pat), Chris Curb (Arlene), Alicia Phillips (Steve) and Michelle Cameron (Blaine). She also leaves great-grandchildren, Sarah Bonds Collins (TJ), Stephanie Scarlett and Waylon Tidmore, Walter Tyer Cameron, Jason and Matt Curtis, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 19th at 11:00 at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, AL. Minister Clarence Latner Jr. of Greensboro Church of Christ will be conducting the service with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Greensboro Church of Christ.
