Betty Ann Edwards, age 82, of Valley Grande, AL, passed away February 15, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Edwards; parents, Henry and Eunice Cole; brothers, Cleveland Cole, William Cole, Franklin Cole, Noah Cole and Kelsey Cole; sister, Elizabeth Smitherman; daughter-in-law, Paulette Smith and son-in-law, Len Johnson. Betty graduated from Lahanton School of Practical Nursing in Fallon, Nevada in 1966. She worked for Vaughan Memorial Hospital in Selma for many years. She married David Edwards in 1972 and worked at Dunn's Nursing Home for six years until retiring to help David in the store (Dave Edwards Food Market) until they sold out in 1989. She was very active in their church, Harper's Chapel Presbyterian for over twenty-eight years and later became a member at Ocmulgee Baptist Church. David passed away in 2009. She is survived by her children, Ray Smith, Ken (Janice) Smith, Rita A. Johnson, Mike Edwards and Sammy (Miriam) Edwards; grandchildren, Kim (Johnny) Lambert, Brina (Robert) Lombardo, Jennifer Johnson, Kala Hernandez, Stuart Smith, Monica Smith, April McNair, Mike (Kendall) Edwards, Rob Edwards, Andy (Jeewon) Edwards, Samantha (Ian) Pfieffer and Bonnie Edwards; great-grandchildren, Trey, Emily, Isabella, Robert III, Brandon, J.J., Allysia, Abbie, Kimberly, Miquel, Mason, Bradley, AnnaLeigh, and Grayson; three great-great grandchildren, Elodie Kate, Samuel and Daniel; sisters-in-law, Annie Nichols, Ruth Cole and Gladys Edwards; special friend, Mel Bradshaw and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Selma Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Danny Sumerlin and Dr. George Wood officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 7-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ocmulgee Baptist Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be Ricky McDowell, Jake Segrest, John Roseberry, Ronnie Smitherman, Henry Smitherman and Cleveland Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Julian Howell, Dr. George Wood, Brent Belcher and Frank Callaway.
