Betty Rose Leva Gibian

Betty Rose Leva Gibian passed away Friday, December 28, 2012. A lifetime resident of Selma, Alabama, "Bo" as she was affectionately called by her friends and family, was born April 20, 1922. After graduating from Selma High School she attended the University of Alabama.

After World War II, Bo met and married Richard Gibian of Montgomery. They lived in Selma where they ran American Candy Company, the family business. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. "Bo" was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson and Ray Naman Leva, and her sister Joan Leva Marx. She is survived by her chidren Joan Gibian Looney, Gail Gibian, and Richard and Kathy Gibian as well as her grandchildren Rick and Lisa Looney, Todd and Kelly Looney Dawson, Jackson and Nicole Looney, Emily Gibian, Olivia Gibian, and James Gibian and six great grandchildren, Lev and Ari Looney, Caroline, Owen, and Lilly Dawson, and Rivers Looney. She is also survived by her nephews and nieces and their families.

Bo was a member of Temple Mishkan Israel in Selma where she served on the Council of Jewish Women for many years and was President of that organization. She was a founding member of "Pandora". She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Vaughan Memorial Hospital, as well as the Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.

Graveside services will be held at the Old Live Oak Cemetery at 2:00pm Sunday, December 30, 2012. Honorary Pall Bearers are Rick Looney, Jackson Looney, James Gibian, Todd Dawson, Lev Looney, Phillip Bernstein, Bob Enslen, Bill Goolsby, Paul Glasser, Lee Goodman, Brian Gipstein, Jerre Yeager, Jerry Siegel, Mike Seigel, Charlie Sims, and Seymore Cohn.

The family would like to thank Dr. Park Chittom, the staff at Park Place and Cahaba Hospice. They give special thanks to laura Irby, Jackie Roller, Nathola Becton, Mae Hill, Ann Curtis, Angie Traylor, Frances Jones, Jean Brannon, and Gloria Bonner.

Donations May be made to the Selma Dallas County Public Library, Temple Mishkan Israel or a charity of one's choice.
