Betty Kendall

Betty Lou Kendall, age 86, passed away December 7, 2018. She was born in Jeffersonville, IN, to the late Rev. Stanley and Mrs. Evelyn Kendall and lived in the state of Indiana, Kentucky and Florida until the family moved to Selma, AL, where their roots have extended downward to hold it in place since 1963.
Arrangements will be directed by Selma Funeral Home with visitation being on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. and the service being in the chapel after the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Dr. Michael Avery will officiate the service.
Betty was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Kendall Harrison. She is survived by Charles Harrison, brother-in-law; Karen (Tony) Smith, niece and nephew-in-law; Keaton Jones, great-nephew; along with cousins, friends, former students and caregiver, Marie Barnett.
Since a teenager, Betty's focus and center in life was exhibited by her commitment to Jesus Christ who gave her strength, fortitude and ability to push forward in life's pursuits, such as being a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and WMS officer in her church.
Betty was a secretary before completing her BSC and Master's degrees to become an educator. She taught on the Junior and Senior High School levels and retired in 1988 after serving twenty-two years at Wallace Community College. It was her no-nonsense and straight-to-the point insight traits that many of her former students remembered and appreciated as they went forth to build lives for themselves in the business and professional world.
The next phase of her life was as a volunteer for American Cancer Society for five years, Vaughan Regional Medical Center for seven years and Vaughan Place Senior Living Facility for four years.
The family will receive flowers, but suggests instead that donations be made to the Gideons International, P. O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, 37214-0800.
