Betty Cook Pickens, age 96, the wife of Reuben Pickens of Selma, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
She was a homemaker.
She was born in Georgia on October 2, 1925, the daughter of the late Thomas Dorsey Cook and the late Bessie Thelma Benson Cook. She moved from South Georgia to Atlanta after high school graduation where she met the love of her life, Reuben. they knew each other for 72 years and were married for 68 of those years. Betty was a devout Christian and a member of Elkdale Baptist Church. She never met a stranger, always had a positive attitude, and loved life.
She is survived by her husband, Reuben P. Pickens, Jr.; daughter, Sherri P. Smith (Dan); grandson, Matthew T. Smith (Kaylie); great-grandchildren, Justice, Stormy, and Silas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Dorsey Cook and Thelma Benson Cook; and siblings, Gloria Cook Godwin and John Benson Cook.
A private funeral service will be held at her home.
Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.
