Clarence Leon "Bill" Barrett, age 98, of Monroeville, AL and formerly of Selma, AL, passed away December 26, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Tula Mae "Tootsie" Barrett; infant son, Donald Ray Barrett; parents, James Leroy and Millie Olive Barrett; brothers, Bernie Barrett, Vernon Barrett, Martin Barrett, William Barrett, Blake Barrett and Jack Barrett; son-in-law, Donald Tyus, Sr. and great-great-granddaughter, Shannon Rawlison.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Louvern "Lou" Barrett; daughters, Sandra Marie Tyus and Brenda Sue (Luckie) Smith; step-son, Donald Roy (Madelyn) Long; step-daughter, Donna Lou Sims; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; seven step-great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill served four years in the Navy as a Petty Officer Radar Technician in World War II. He was always a hero to his family and everyone he met. He was a loving man who was always admired as someone that was good at mentoring and teaching how to love and get through life in a better way. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church for fifty-one years where he served as a deacon and taught many classes. He worked as a salesman for Stewart, King and McKenzie for many years and then managed Institutional Foods for several years before he retired. After retirement he managed the Selma Area Food Bank for seven years. He was the oldest member of Elk Lodge #167 in Selma and was a member for fifty seven years. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. In 2001, he moved to Monroeville, AL and there he joined First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Jeremy Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be prior to the service at 2:00 p.m.
His grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
