Bonnie Blanton Mills

Bonnie Blanton Mills died peacefully on May 28, 2013 at Park Place Nursing and Rehab Center. Bonnie was born April 5, 1915 in Monroe County Alabama.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Alexander Mills, Jr.; her parents, John and Lou Blanton; her brother, L.J "Buck" Blanton, her sisters, Lonnie Simpson, Bessie Morris, Hortense "Cricket" Morris and Lilly Byrd; nephews, W.T Stanton, Earl Byrd and her special "adopted nephew" Dr. J.T Downard; nieces, Doris Jackson and great niece, Joy Jackson.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Judi Mills Garofalo and her husband Barry; son, Sam Grady Mills and his wife Sandy; grandchildren: Alex Mills and Patrick Peterson and his wife Kelly; great-granddaughters, Haley Elise Peterson and Olivia Mills; nieces and nephews, Quida Stanton, Jack and Eva Simpson, Greta Blanton, Larry Blanton, Ronnie Blanton, Daryl Blanton, Joyce Prim, and her special "adopted niece" and her dear friend Nora Downard and her children; great nephews, Jackson Clearman, Tom and Toni Stanton, and Mike and Shirley Stanton.

Bonnie was loved deeply by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was always there to lend her wisdom and care for all who were blessed to be in her life. Bonnie will be missed by so many friends and family for her love and support. She was famous for her Christmas cookies, preserves and the "infamous" pound cake she shared for all.

Bonnie came to Selma 70 years ago continuing her career here as a hair stylist and beauty school owner. Bonnie retired on her 90th birthday and closed Bonnie's Beauty Salon at that time. During her career she employed and befriended many. Bonnie employed Daisy Pearl Johnson for over 50 years and refers to Daisy as "her dearest friend".

Our family could not have made it over the past several years without the love and support of "our" Nora Downard, the caring staff at Park Place, Dr. Park Chittom II, "our" Daisy and most recently Jackie Roller, Emma Crum and Nathola Beckton.

Graveside services will be Friday at New Live Oak Cemetery, May 31, 2013 at 11:00 A.M with visitation after the graveside at the cemetery. Our friend and neighbor Rev. Reba Wiley is honoring Bonnie by officiating the service and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Peterson, Alex Mills, Tom Stanton, Mike Stanton, Scoop Rivers and Rhett Rivers.
