Camelia Cochrane Miller

September 2, 1934 — March 18, 2025

Camelia (Mimi) Cochrane Miller, Age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law after complications of a stroke. She was surrounded by family, friends and caregivers until her passing.

Camelia (Mimi) was born in Troy Alabama on September 2, 1934. She moved to Selma with her family when she was two. She attended Dallas Academy and A.G. Parrish High School class of 1952. Mimi was a high stepping Majorette in high school and had wonderful memories of fun school days and classmates.

Mimi dropped out of school and eloped with her high school sweetheart, Lawson (Noonie) Miller Jr. They moved to South Carolina where he was stationed for National Guard Tank School. Upon completion, they moved back to Selma where they raised two children, Lawson Edward (Ed) Miller and Margaret (Margie) Miller Johnson.

Mimi’s occupations included homemaker, secretary to Dr. Allison and Office Manager at Liberty National Life insurance Company where she retired in 1992 after 30 years of service.

Some of Mimi’s favorites hobbies were fishing, working with flowers in her yard, crafting, swimming, cooking and visiting with friends and family. She enjoyed music that spanned many genres from Big Band, The Platters, The Temptations, Elvis, Nat King Cole, Neil Diamond, The Eagles and Keith Urban. She was an avid Auburn fan and loved Auburn basketball and football. She was orange and blue through and through. She was a big animal lover and supported our local rescues.

Mimi enjoyed shopping trips to Prattville, going to the movies, vacations to Orange Beach and hosting small dinner parties and birthday celebrations. Mimi loved being around people and never met a stranger. Her favorite memory was speckled trout fishing on the Bon Secour River with her husband and annual family vacations to Swift’s Landing cabins on the Bon Secour.

Mimi was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lawson (Noonie) Miller Jr., her father Crawford Edward Cochrane and mother, Carolyn Elizabeth (Beth) Bayne Cochrane.

Mimi leaves behind a son, Lawson Edward (Ed) Miller (Joanna) and a daughter Margaret (Margie) Elizabeth Miller Johnson (Steve) all of Selma.

She Leaves five grandchildren, John Miller (Elizabeth), Candace Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Mallory Kenworthy (Barclay) and Courtney Johnson-Jarman (Rob). Mimi also leaves five great grandchildren, Stephen Johnson, Adaline Miller, Avery Kenworthy, Jake Jarman and Luke Jarman. Mimi leaves behind a special cousin, Elliott Bayne, numerous close friends and her little dog Sammy.

A special thank you to Mimi’s caregivers, Christine Browder and Lucretia Smith, Traditions Hospice of Selma, Elkdale Baptist Church and friends and family who came for visits, sent food, flowers, cards and especially prayers.

Camelia (Mimi) Miller was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a friend of everyone and had a giving heart of gold. Rest in peace Mom. We will surely see you again in Heaven.

The Pallbearers will be John Miller, Steve Johnson, Rob Jarman, Kyle Johnson, Barclay Kenworthy and Eric Allison.

Funeral Services will be held at Elkdale Baptist Church, 221 Elkdale Street, Selma, AL, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. with interment to follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at 10:00 A.M. at Elkdale Baptist Church.

Jonathan (JB) Brown and John Braley, both ministers of Elkdale Baptist Church, will be officiating. Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma will be handling arrangements.
