Cassandra “Sandra” Traylor Champion passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, February 17, 2023,
at the age of 86. She is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Sandra was born and raised in Collirene, Alabama (The Queen Hill). She loved her family and she
loved her Church. She was a devoted “mama” to her children and was Mac’s biggest cheerleader
and the love of his life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Stewart McWhorter “Mac” Champion, Jr.; her father, John Bryant Traylor; her mother, Rosa Lyon Traylor; and her sister-in-law, Betty Maples Traylor.
She is survived by her brother, John Bryant Traylor, Jr., one son, Traylor (Sarah) Champion; three daughters, Carol Champion (Chuck) Lambert, Margaret Champion (Britt) Mott, and Nancy Champion (Frank) Elliott; eight grandchildren Carrie (Patrick) McGowan; Tray (Leah) Champion; Todd (Lauren) Bradford; Justin (Corey Kate) Lambert; Leah (Eric) Chandler; Laura Cameron (William)
Murphy; Aly (Pitt) Hughes; Elizabeth (Ashley) Bowers; 21 great grandchildren; one nephew, Bryant (Jodi) Traylor; and one niece, Rebekah Traylor.
Pallbearers will be J. R. Aughtman, Randy Bozeman, Craig Grantham, Jeff Lovell, Bill Morgan, and Ransom Williams.
The family is grateful for the devoted love and care provided by Ometrice P. Logan, Tracie P. Martin, Vivian Cook, Angela Smith, Cynthia Carter, Charlie Smith, Johnnie Payton, Wilmeshia Payton, Stevonica Logan and the staff at SouthernCare.
Funeral services will be Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Hayneville Baptist Church with Jeff Lovell and Davey Lyon officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing.
Interment will follow at Brightman Cemetery. Visitation will begin in the church fellowship hall at 12:30 pm., prior to the service. The service will be streamed online at http://watchlawrence.live, via the funeral home's Facebook page.
