Charles Morris Veach went to be with Jesus August 4, 2024 at the age of 85. He was born October 16, 1938 in Selma, Alabama. He was the last of six children born to the late William Monroe Veach and Pennie A. Veach.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, William M. Veach, Jack D. Veach, Paul Veach, Doris Veach Arrighi and Judith Veach Saranthus.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Mizelle Veach; son, M. Craig (Linda) Veach; daughter, Shannon Veach (Frank) Richardson; grandchildren, Brandon C. (Lauren) Veach, Mary Kaylin Veach (Tyler) Armstead and Jordyn N. (Nick) Dexter; great-grandchildren, Hudson C. Veach, Charlotte Anne Veach, Coleman W. Veach and Mary Holland Armstead and numerous nieces and nephews.
Morris was a 72-year employee of the Selma Times-Journal, beginning at the age of 13, with his first paper route.
Morris loved to play golf with friends and taught his son, Craig as a small boy with one of his putters he modified to his size. Of course baseball was he and Craig's passion to play. He loved to agitate Shannon by teasing her and putting on his "Top hits of the 40's" Country tapes in the car while traveling.
He and Charlotte were long-time members of First Baptist Church of Selma, where they raised Craig and Shannon.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Jerry Light officiating in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Pallbearers will be Edward Hughey, Brandon C. Veach, Tyler Armstead, William Watts, Frank Richardson and Costa Englezos.
The family will accept flowers or you may consider making memorial donations to First United Methodist Church Respite Ministry in Montgomery; 2416 W Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL 36106.
