Charlie Jones

Charlie Georgeton Jones, age 83, of Valley Grande, AL, passed away July 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Fannie Jones; son, Larry Jones; grandson, David Godwin; brother, Forrest Jones, and sister, Mary Jones. Surviving are his wife, Frances Jones; sons, Sidney (Karen) Jones, John (Debra) Brock and Bobby (Elise) Brock; daughters, Donna Massie, Belinda Nichols and Sandra Bollinger; brother, Phillip (Mary) Jones; sister, Faye (Darrell) Mims; fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 12, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Robert Taylor, Rev. Donald Harris and Rev. Danny Summerlin officiating. Interment will be in Ocmulgee Baptist Church Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Allen Childress, Clint Jones, Donald Horton, Dustin Horton, Morgan Yarbrough, Ryan King, Sloane Jones and the Selma Police Department Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class at Ocmulgee Baptist Church. Charlie served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a lifetime Mason and lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Number 12. He retired from the Selma Police Department as Assistant Police Chief. After his retirement he served as crossing guard at Edgewood Elementary School. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Ocmulgee Baptist Church, Rt. 6 Box 378, Selma, AL 36701.
