Donna Smitherman Morgan, 59, passed away early Sunday morning at UAB hospital. She succumbed to an infection brought about by injuries she received almost three weeks ago. She put up a valiant effort in the light of numerous complications before it became apparent she was fighting a losing battle. She passed peacefully.
Donna was an intelligent and caring woman that worked for many years as an insurance adjuster, and many remember her from that happier time. Although she struggled with mental illness for well over the decade before her death, she still leaves behind a legacy of thoughtfulness and concern for those around her.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Arthur (Smitty) Smitherman, Sr.; her stepfather, Floyd R. Ryals; her mother, Patricia Ann Smitherman Ryals; and her brother, William Arthur (Billy) Smitherman, Jr.
Donna's legacy lives on in her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mike Mansur, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Annmarie Morgan. She had one grandchild, several nieces and nephews, and a great cloud of cousins, aunts and uncles, and other family.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with a private burial for family following at Pineview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at noon on Saturday, immediately preceding the funeral.
