Dorothy Peal

August 10, 1924 — December 7, 2013

Dorothy Peal, a resident of the Park Place Nursing Home in Selma, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the age of 89. Dorothy was born in Tuscaloosa County and attended Tuscaloosa County High School. She moved to Selma upon her marriage and worked in the cellophane department at the cigar factory. After the birth of her children, she became a full time homemaker. She was an avid gardener, quilter, and embroiderer.
A long time member of West End Baptist Church, Dorothy began every day with Bible reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lasco and Florence Herndon; her husband, Cecil Peal; her brother, Howard Herndon; an infant daughter, Sara Ruth Peal; and her son, Terry Peal.
Surviving are a sister, Sara Herndon Hamby; a daughter, Debbie Peal Smallwood (Jim); a daughter-in-law, Diane Crews Peal (T. C. Dunkin); four granddaughters: Beverly Peal Strickland (Chris); Terri Lynn Peal Fisher (Burton); Jaimie Peal; and Jennifer Smallwood Dashner (Jasen); seven great grandchildren:
Ashley Strickland Potvin (Jason); Blanton Strickland; Brent Strickland; Cole Dashner, Audrie Dashner, Cassidy Peal, and Luke Dashner. She is also survived by two nieces and three nephews and their families.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, December 10th at the Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home 6-8 p.m. ,and there will be a graveside service at Pineview Memory Gardens on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Rev. Travis Barnes.
Flowers will be accepted as well as donations to the American Red Cross.
