Dorothy Bliss Plant, 91, of Selma, Alabama, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in Talladega, Alabama. Born June 2, 1919, she grew up in Birmingham, attended Woodlawn High School, and graduated from Alabama College in 1939. She lived for many years in Selma, where she taught at Byrd Elementary School and Morgan Academy. She was a long-time member of the West End Study Club and of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the Presbyterian Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest F. and Fannie Mae Byars Bliss; husband, John Jefferson Plant; sister, Marjorie Bliss King; and brother, Richard F. Bliss, M.D. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ernestine Plant Williams; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 5, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ronald E. Stone officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Selma.
