Edna Lucille (Lucy) Taylor
Edna Lucille (Lucy) Taylor of Silver Spring, Maryland, formerly of Selma, Alabama, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, after a lengthy illness.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Taylor Lewis of Mobile, Alabama and Linda (Sissy) Taylor Arthur (Marvin) of Silver Spring, Maryland; four nephews, Bill Atkins of Woodbury, Georgia; Glenn Atkins of Mobile, Alabama, Butch Lewis of Mobile, Alabama; and Trey Arthur of Silver Spring, Maryland; one niece, Leah Edna Arthur of Silver spring, Maryland; and a special cousin, Jackie Taylor Peake of Selma, Alabama. Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, John Miller and Edna Watson Taylor, and a sister, Eva Leah (Topsy) Taylor.
Ms. Taylor grew up in Safford, Alabama, and graduated from Orrville High School in 1952. She also graduated from Judson College, Marion, Alabama, in 1956. While at Judson, Lucy became interested in art and was an avid collector of the original art work of Crawford Gillis.
Following graduation from college, Lucy moved to Selma and worked briefly Hoenberg Brothers before embarking on a distinguished career with the Federal Government- first with the Air Force at Craig Air Force Base, Alabama, then transferring to Washington, D.C. She retired from the Department of Commerce.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening, Nov. 4, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home, 2900 Citizens Parkway, Selma, Alabama 36701. Graveside Services will be held the next day, Nov. 5, at 1:00 p.m., at the Pineview Memory Gardens, 5171 Alabama Highway 22, Selma, Alabama.
