Elizabeth Ann Taylor, born October 22, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away April 21, 2025 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Liz was the daughter of David Woodrow Taylor and Letitia Elizabeth Mock Taylor. Her family moved to the Bluff Park neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, when she was a child. She was a graduate of the Misses Howards School for Girls in Birmingham and of The University of Montevallo, with a Master of Education degree in 1975. Liz and her lifelong friend Kitti Windham lived in Selma, Alabama, and were involved in the local arts community, including the founding and operation of the Citadel Players, and later Encore! Community Theatre. Liz was devoted to the ministry of her home church, St. Paul’s Episcopal in Selma and was a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King. She spent much of her time volunteering at a variety of civic and charity organizations. In 2012, Liz completed 37 years of employment with the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Guy Ashmore, her sister Cindy Moseley, and her nephew David Ashmore. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Rusty Ashmore, Virginia Ashmore Smith, Richard Ashmore, Bettie Ashmore Tuttle, Andrew Lawrence, and Samuel Moseley, as well as 12 great nephews and great nieces.

Liz Taylor’s friends and family will remember her feisty individualism, as well as her loyalty and service to those she loved. The family would like to thank those professionals, friends and volunteers who cared for her during her illness, including the staff members at Arabella Health and Wellness in Selma, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care, Fair Haven in Birmingham, Grandview Medical Center, and especially Gracie Riddle and Nancy Johnson, two women whose loving care for Liz will not be forgotten.

An outdoor memorial service will be held in the Columbarium Garden of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Selma, Alabama, on Monday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome.
