Eva Joe Nichols Bruner, a beloved member of the Selma community, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023, at the age of 77. Known for her warm smile, quick wit, and uplifting spirit, Eva Joe leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
Born on December 7, 1945, Eva Joe grew up in Selma and graduated from Orrville High School in 1964. She went on to dedicate 30 years of her life to Bush Hog, where she built lifelong friendships and considered her colleagues as a second family.
Beyond her profession, Eva Joe had a passion for brightening people's lives. She often expressed her love and encouragement by sending heartfelt cards filled with kind words to friends and acquaintances alike. Her thoughtful gestures touched many hearts and served as a reminder of the power of uplifting others.
In addition to her many accomplishments and contributions, Eva Joe held a deep sense of pride and joy in her family. She was particularly proud of her cherished grandson, Hayden. She found solace and camaraderie within her "Grace" Sunday School Class at Elkdale Baptist Church. In her free time, Eva Joe enjoyed indulging in various hobbies and interests. She found joy in the pages of a good book and following Alabama Football with unwavering loyalty.
Eva Joe was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leslie and Edith Nichols. She is survived by her daughter, Emily Bruner (Steve) Rogers; son, Michael (Fran) Bruner; grandson, Hayden Bruner; brothers, Wendell (Charlotte) Nichols and Willard (Sue) Nichols and sister, Trisha (Glenn) Jones. Eva Joe’s presence in their lives brought immeasurable joy, and her memory will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration.
A visitation in honor of Eva's life will be held on August 10, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Elkdale Baptist Church located at 2221 Elkdale St, Selma, AL 36701. Following the visitation, a memorial service will begin at 11:30 AM. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Eva are invited to come together to celebrate her remarkable journey and bid her farewell.
In light of her love for animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Sky Hill Animal Society; 2588 County Road 209, Selma, Alabama 36701.
