Evelyn Lucille Mixon

Plantersville, Alabama

Evelyn Lucille Mixon was born on March 12, 1933, in Dallas County, AL, to the late Isaiah Sherrer and Annie Lee Jones. She was the second of six daughters born to Annie Lee Jones.

As a child, Evelyn attended Grove Hill Elementary School on the Plantersville and Selma, AL route, and The Literary Institute in Burnsville, AL. As a teenager, she graduated from R.B. Hudson High School in Selma, AL, between 1950 and 1951. She loved cooking and taking care of her family! 

Some of Evelyn's favorite dishes to cook included chicken and dressing, and her favorite to bake was sweet potato pie.

Evelyn met a military man, Jessie Mixon, from Autaugaville County, AL, and they married in 1951 during World War II.

Evelyn began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses alongside her oldest daughter Shirley Ann Bailey. 

Evelyn is survived by her three sons: Franklin (Joann) Mixon of Birmingham, AL, Theodore (Beverly) Mixon of Dallas County, AL, Timothy Earl (Annette) Mixon of Selma, AL; two daughters: Annette (Joe) Anderson of Detroit, Ml and Tara (Melvin) Mixon of Plantersville, AL; three step-sons: Joe Phillips of Somervllie, AL, Jimmie Phillips of Somerville, AL, Quinton Alexander of Plantersville, AL; one step daughter: LoLetha Alexander of Plantersville, AL; one daughter-in-law: Lois Jones of Plantersville, Al: two sisters by Annie Lee Jones: Rebecca Atkinson of Plantersville, AL/Lorton, VA, Vera Willis of Starkville, MS; one sister and a brother by Isaiah Sherrer: Idell Sherrer Parker of Autaugaville, Al, and Theodore Sherrer of Selma, AL; 32-Grandchildren, 46-Great Grandchildren,19- Great-Great Grandchildren, 1- Great- Great- Great Grandchild, a multitude of nieces, nephews and special friends Pie Hatcher and Marzetta Harris Evelyn was preceded in death by four of her sisters: Clara Bell Mixon of Bluntersville, AL, Prevella Anthony of Birmingham, AL, Eloise Jones Willis of Birmingnam, AL, Catherine Sherrer Brown of Detroit, MI; her daughter Shirley Ann Bailey oj Plantersville, AL and two sons, James Harris Mixon of Plantersville, AL and Alvin James Mixon of Millbrook, AL.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 am from the Selma Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 4-6 pm at the Selma Funeral Home.
