Frances Taylor

Frances Campbell Taylor, 96, passed away at 9pm Thursday May 17 at Park Place rest home here in Selma Alabama.  Mrs. Taylor was proceeded in death by her Husband, Earl Lundsford Taylor, her mother, Roberta Stuart Campbell,  father Joseph Shelton Campbell , and Sister Roberta Campbell Fiveash.  She is Survived by her 3 children, Earl Lundsford Taylor Jr. of Charlotte North Carolina, Mary Susan Taylor of Baltimore Maryland, and Robert Shelton Taylor of Houston Texas. Survivors also include grand daughters Laura Taylor Joyce of Houston and Sharon Ellen Taylor currently residing in Folsom California.  She was loved by her children’s spouses and partners Mary Ellen Cook Taylor, Lisa Hixon Taylor, and Jon Acton.

Born September 24, 1921, Frances lived in Selma her entire life.  She witnessed Selma during the roaring twenties, the great depression, World War II, and the turbulent 60’s.   Shortly after her husband’s death in 1998, Her daughter Susan took her on a grand tour of Europe. As late as the year 2000, she was typing the Woodland Heights Presbyterian Church prayer list on her Daughter Susan’s old Macintosh Computer. In 2001 she and her children visited England and Scotland, her ancestral home.  In 2015, age 94, legally blind and unable to walk, she never the less graced her granddaughter Laura’s Wedding in Houston Texas with the aid of her daughter Susan, Jon Acton, and her niece Sharon.

Frances was a great believer in education.  She and her husband Earl made considerable sacrifices to insure all three of their children received college degrees.

A religious woman, she was raised in the first Presbyterian Church of Selma (now Cornerstone Church).  After World War II, she, her husband and new family were instrumental in the formation of Woodland Heights Presbyterian Church.  The wife of a ruling Elder, she was very active in the choir and the Women of the Church.  She also taught Sunday School.  Frances was one of the few remaining members when the Church dissolved a few years back.

Frances was the epitome of Southern Hospitality. She loved company and loved to cook for her family, friends and her church family.  She somehow found time for this in addition to working full time with her husband Earl to Manage Selma Feed Company.

Frances had literally generations of friends, too many of whom she outlived.   She spent hours playing and teaching others to play foot canasta. She was an active bridge player though age 94.  The last years of her life were made considerably brighter by her dear friend Patricia Cooper, Eric Stubbs, Her niece Betty Akers, and her companion Sara Lanier.

Frances was an avid gardener and lover of flowers, so there will be no ‘In Leu of’, please fill free to brighten the funeral home with flora.

Funeral services for Frances Taylor will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 26, 2018 in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home Visitation will be from Friday evening, May 25, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
