Gary Wade Smith passed away December 2, 2020 at the age of 67. He was born September 12, 1953 to the late Jesse Thurston Smith and Betty Bolding Thomley.
A loving husband, father and caregiver; he was an avid outdoorsman and Alabama Football fan. He was proud of his time playing football under coach Earl Griffin, who was a great mentor of his at Dallas County High School; he graduated Class of 1973. Gary was a self-employed air conditioning repairman and also enjoyed competitive coon hunting with friends. He faithfully served the Lord as a deacon, ministering to the community, leading bible studies and helping those in need.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Wade Smith, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debra Shepard Smith; daughter, Sandy (James A.) Mills; grandchildren, Candice (Pete) Browning, Haley (Drake) Davis; six great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby (April) Smith; sister, Susan (Robert) Stevens; nieces and nephews, Shawn (Nikki) Smith, Dylan (Sarah) Smith, Joseph (Catherine) Harrison, Douglas Harrison, Olivia Harrison, Zak (Kandace) Jumper, Kayla (Jordan) James and Samantha Stevens and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Glenn Brock officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Smith, brother; Robert Stevens, brother-in-law; James Mills, son-in-law; Shawn Smith, nephew; Dylan Smith, nephew and Jasper Pugh, friend.
