Geoffrey Chance

Geoffrey Grady Chance passed from this life on October 21, 2013. He was born in Crenshaw County on February 12, 1913 to Henry Grady and Mary Bowden Chance. He was the eldest of eight children. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Daisy Godwin Chance. He is survived by five children, Jean (Nathan) Richburg, Betty (Fred) Strickland, Billy Fred (Cathy) Chance, Janice (Gabe) Landrum and Steve Donald (Barbara) Chance; nine grandchildren, Timothy (Sheryl) Richburg, Stephanie (Chris) Cuomo, Eric (Starla) Richburg, Michael (Emily) Strickland, Janet (Robby) Bennett, Matt (Linda) Landrum, Gary Landrum, Jason Chance and Verene (Glen) Jones; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbert Chance and Hubert Chance and two sisters-in-law, Ina Crowder and Katherine Pearson. Mr. Chance retired from Civil Service and later established Southside Service Station and Grocery, which he operated until January 1981. He was a long time cattleman and a member of Casey Church of Christ, where he served as song leader and elder. Funeral services will be Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tim Richburg officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will like to extend a special thank you to Joyce Smith of Asera Care Hospice and caretakers, Angie Hand and Johnny Livingston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Casey Church of Christ.
