George Iii

George Frank Cothran, III, lifelong resident of Selma, AL died at the age of 80 at his home on Dallas Avenue on Friday, November 6, 2015.

Born and raised here in Selma, he is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Boling Cothran, a daughter, Kathrine Cothran Holmes (Dwayne) and three sons, George Frank Cothran IV (Lauri), James Charles Cothran (Tracey), David Boling Cothran (Tonya), grandchildren; Kathrine Cothran Barton (Morris), Grogan Sparks Cothran, Emily Vaughan Cothran, Hayes Cothran Havener (Ryan), Andrew Grey Cothran, Jordan Allen Cothran, David Boling Cothran Jr., Emma Layne Cothran, Reagan Louise Cothran, Peyton Reid Cothran, Amy Michelle Hollon (Joseph), Kendall Holmes Turner (Kevin), Summer Holmes Howard (Jeremy), great-grandchildren; Leonard Morris Barton, IV, Frances Elizabeth Barton and Korbin Delayne Howard. He is also survived by a sister, Rebecca Cothran Nichols (Jim) of Selma and a brother, James Grogan Cothran (Mary Lou) of Fairhope, devoted friend Bob Pair as well as numerous Selma cousins.
Mr. Cothran was a proud member of the Cothran and Vaughan families who were pioneer settlers of Dallas County. He attended Southwestern (Rhodes College) and graduated from the University of Alabama. Upon returning to Selma, he owned and operated his own business.

An avid golfer, Mr. Cothran was a five time winner of the National Amputee Golf Association Championship and the winner in numerous years of the Southern Amputee Golf Association. A man of extreme courage with a passion for life, Mr. Cothran saw all obstacles as challenges to success and never missed an opportunity to give words of encouragement to those around him.
Mr. Cothran spent his retirement years pursuing his love for the outdoors, his garden and most of all, spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the Warren Room of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church at two p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2015.A private interment will follow at a later date.
