George Nassaney

George Albert Nassaney, of Selma, Alabama, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, with his loving wife, Betty Nassaney at his bedside, after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joanne Marie Nassaney, and his parents, George and Sue Nassaney.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, George Nassaney, Jr., Deborah Britton (Richard), Susan Dubose (Mike), David Nassaney, and Robin Hamm (Mike); his step-children, Benita Hayes (Jerry) and Melisa Payne (James); his sisters, Jean Pilkington of Miami, Florida, and Nancy Baines of Guntersville, Alabama and his brother, Bob Nassaney of Key Largo, Florida. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George, 83, was born in Patterson, New Jersey, on December 15, 1934, and attended school in Miami, Florida. He served in the United States Air Force, stationed in Korea, and later at Craig Air Force Base. After moving back to Miami, he returned to Selma as manager of the Reliable Oldsmobile Body Shop, and thereafter started several businesses in Selma, including George's Paint Body and R and N Auto Parts.

He and his wife Betty are members of Valley Grande Baptist Church and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. George was a past member and Governor of the local Moose Lodge.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Selma Funeral Home, with services following at 2 p.m., with Rev. Clark Skelton and Father Richard Myhalyk officiating. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery on Highway 82 in Maplesville.

Pallbearers are grandchildren, Kevin Benton, Jeri Blackmon, Shannon Cook, Chapman Cook, Jonathan Payne, and Joshua Payne.
