George A. Wiltsie, Sr. - known to all as “Buddy” - left this Earth peacefully on May 17, 2024 in his home in Selma, AL after a formidable battle with cancer surrounded by family.
Buddy was loved by, and touched so many, through his tireless work for God, his unlimited generosity, good deeds (both known and unknown), and general awesomeness. He loved his dogs almost as much he loved his two-legged children. Buddy Wiltsie was a country boy at heart, growing up in Prairie, AL,. He started his education at Troy State (where he claimed to have majored in Gin Rummy) and finished Alverson Draughon Business School. He worked for decades at Stewart, King and Mackenzie as an accountant before becoming President. He was on the board of Matthews Electric and after retiring, Buddy was named Executive Director of the Selma Area Food Bank where he stay involved even after stepping down from leadership.
In addition to being a steadfast husband, father, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend, Buddy spent tireless hours volunteering for the Salvation Army, serving as the treasurer of the Central Alabama Child Advocacy Center and Special Years Plus, Inc., tutoring those in need, and serving many years acting as an elder for the New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Buddy loved Auburn Football and cheering on the Tigers. He enjoyed being on the river, hunting and especially calling turkeys. He was also a very good dancer, in particular his signature “Prairie Shuffle”.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Lee Cole Wiltsie; brother, Donald Aldridge “Al” Wiltsie, Jr.; mother, Alfreda Whatley Wiltsie, and father, Donald Aldridge Wiltsie, Sr.
He is survived by his children, Donna Lee “Dee” Wiltsie, George A. Wiltsie, Jr., Christie (Adam) Kuropatwa; grandchildren, Jordan Wiltsie (Tyler Sebren), Lorelei Kuropatwa, Estoria Kuropatwa, great-grandson, Jon Thomas Sebren and sister, Donna Wiltsie,
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at New Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mike Perry officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at Catherine Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:00 p.m., prior to the service.
