Geraldine Peace passed away July 30, 2024 at the age of 87, the last of her siblings. She was born in Double Springs, Alabama January 29, 1937 to the late Lee Burla Hill and Earline Covington Hill.
Geraldine lived a life marked by unwavering determination and an unyielding spirit. Her journey was one of resilience and tenacity, a journey that inspired all who crossed her path.
Geraldine's passion for justice shone brightly throughout her life. In a defining moment that captured her fierce spirit, she once famously challenged an airline after they lost her luggage. With steely resolve, she declared, "You just flew this plane from Montgomery to Mexico in the dark. The easiest thing you are going to do tonight is find my luggage, and I'm not leaving until you do." True to her word, they found her luggage.
Despite facing adversity, Geraldine never backed down from pursuing her dreams. She took on the State all the way to the Supreme Court and defied expectations by returning to Southside High School in 1975 at the age of 38. Undeterred by obstacles, she graduated in 1979 at the age of 42 with her High School Diploma—a testament to her indomitable will.
Beyond her legal battles and academic achievements, Geraldine was known for her fighting spirit and single-minded determination. Once she set her mind to something, there was no stopping her. She remained resolute in her convictions, never swayed by external opinions—a quality that earned her admiration and respect.
In addition to her unwavering advocacy work, Geraldine found joy in being a founding member of a women's group in Selma called "AGLOW." This dynamic and global Kingdom movement brought together both women and men with a singular purpose: to see God's will done on earth as it is in Heaven—a cause close to Geraldine's heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar B. Peace; granddaughter, Alexis Peace Harbor; siblings, Gloria (Joe) Sainz, Annie Carol (Eddie) Wilkerson and Frances (Jim) Owens and son-in-law, Doug Webster.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn Peace Hilliard, Glenn (Melissa) Peace, Carla Peace Webster; Kevin B. Peace, Keith A. (Jodi) Peace; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
