Gertie Smith

Gertie S. Smith, age 85, of Selma, AL, passed away May 26, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, William "Ed" and Hixie Rebecca Smith, brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe (Bertha) Smith, Will (Dora) Smith, Baxter (Lettie) Smith and Malcom (Cora) Smith, and sister, Syble Smith. She is survived by her husband, Hugo Smith and sisters, Elenor Smith and Alice Christianson. Mrs. Smith worked for twenty-six years in Civil Service in Bermuda, England, Michigan, California, South Carolina, Mobile, AL, Craig AFB and Maxwell AFB. She also worked at the Cigar Factory in Selma, AL for twelve years. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Ackerman and Rev. Tommy Fancher officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10-11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Summerfield Baptist Church Senior Adult Class II. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to a charity of choice.
