Glenn Robert LaPorte, 77, of Selma, Alabama, passed away on August 13, 2024. Glenn was predeceased by his wife, Sydney Lollar LaPorte, his father, Frank Robert LaPorte, his mother, Bernice Solomon LaPorte, and his brother, Kenneth Gerald "Jerry" LaPorte.

Glenn's legacy lives on through his loving partner, Joy Johnson; his daughter Rene Pouncey (Josh) and grandson Cullen Nickles; his daughter Amy Reeves (Edgar) and granddaughter Sarah Reeves and grandsons Dayton and Myles Reeves; his son Lee LaPorte (Tiffany) and grandson Will LaPorte, his son Frank LaPorte (Erlana), and his other daughters Syd Griffin (Darryl) and grandchildren Jackson and Marlee, Marguerite Curry (Hobson) and grandchildren Madison, Foster and Whit. His love and dedication to his family will always be remembered.

Glenn's life was marked by his dedication and bravery. After graduating high school, he deployed to Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, 81st Armor Regiment, where he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. Upon his return to Selma, he continued his service, following in his father's footsteps and joining local law enforcement. He made a career with the Selma Police Department and retired as Chief of Detectives, a testament to his commitment and service to his community.

After a life of community service, Glenn retired and spent time with his family. He embraced his new role as his grandchildren's "bus driver" with love and dedication. Glenn spent many weekends on the river with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories. He loved to pull and throw them off, "Big Bertha," and he was always their number one fan at football and baseball games, tennis matches, and dance recitals.

In his later years, he loved taking day trips on his motorcycle with his sweetheart, Joy. They had many adventures together, and there was never a dull moment with these two. They affectionately became known as “The Dynamic Duo.”

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Southern Hospice for their exceptional care and support during Glenn's final days. A private service will be held at a later date to honor Glenn's life and legacy.
