Gwen graduated from The University of Alabama in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation, she worked as a Home Demonstration Agent before marrying Peter Robert Mock, Sr., after which she turned her focus to helping him run and maintain the family farm. During those years she enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, entertaining family and friends in her home, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher at Church Street United Methodist Church.

Following her husband's death, in 1975, Gwen worked for the American Red Cross before taking a full-time position as Activities of Daily Living Instructor with the West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center, where she worked until her retirement at the age of 70. During those years, Gwen gave generously of her time and talents through involvement with several philanthropic organizations. She was a member of Church Street's Catherine Revel Circle, a long-time American Red Cross emergency communication services volunteer; and dedicated member of the Pilot Club of Selma, serving as the organization's Vice President and later, President. Following her retirement, Gwen became even more active in her church. She enjoyed assisting with the publication of Church Street United Methodist Church's bi-weekly newsletter "The Link," working with the Living Treasures program and lending her time and talents to various positions within the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Throughout her life her greatest concern was for her Church, family, and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews Eddie Williams, Mark Williams, John Stoudenmire, Tim Anderson, Paul Anderson, and Mark Anderson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gwen's caregivers Ludie Johnson, Shirley Butler, Veta Allen, Jannie Brown, Bobbie Minter, and Homestead Hospice for the gentle, loving care they took of her.

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Church Street United Methodist Church.
