PALMER, HANNAH KAYSER, age 95, was born February 21, 1914, and died on September 1, 2009. She was born and resided most of her life in Selma, Alabama, where her family had lived since the mid 1800���s, moving to Nashville, Tennessee, after her 90th birthday to live near her daughter. Mrs. Palmer is preceded in death by her husband Seymour and her parents Lillian Leva and Edwin Kayser. She is survived by children Lynn (David ) Barton, Nashville, Edwin (Judy) Palmer, Atlanta, Russell (Suzanne) Palmer, San Antonio, and Buddy (Sarah) Palmer, Birmingham; grandchildren Kirk Barton (Nancy Lipsitz), Amy Barton (Ashby Parsons), Daniel (Sari) Barton, Amanda (David) Lockwood, Keane (Jamie) Palmer, Jill Palmer, Brent Palmer, Stephen Palmer, and Martin (Sidney) Clapp; 13 great-grandchildren, and her sister Matilde Cohen. Mrs. Palmer was a much beloved and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her caring and steadiness helped make her home the go-to place for all her children���s friends. It was a home always filled with much laughter, food, and love. She graduated from Selma High School, attended National Park Seminary in Washington, D.C., and Northwestern University. She met her husband while working in New York City. In Selma, Mrs. Palmer was a long-time member of the Selma Garden Club, served on the Dallas County Girl Scout Council and as president of the Council of Jewish Women, and was involved in many other public school and community projects. For her service and for who she was, she was chosen in 1955 by THE BIRMINGHAM NEWS as one of ���Alabama���s Gracious Ladies.��� She was in canasta and bridge groups in Selma and at Park Manor in Nashville, where she played in three bridge groups until shortly before her death. Graveside services will be held at Old Live Oak Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Thursday September 3, 2009 with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
