Harold Allen "Podie" Curtis, age 78, of Marion Junction, Al, passed away September 30, 2011 at Jackson Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nonnie Bell Horton. He is survived by his wife, Leona Curtis, of Marion Junction; daughters, Debbie (Randy) Smith of Madison, Georgia, Patti (Mike) Lucas of Alexander City, Alabama and Renea Curtis of Birmingham, Alabama; granddaughters, Lauren (David) Pinilla of Mahahaul, Mexico and Mary-Melyssa Smith of Villa Rica, Georgia; great-grandson Demian Pinilla; step-sons Robert Dunkin of Marion Junction, Alabama and Roger Dunkin of Gulfport, Mississippi; step-granddaughters, Connie Anderson and Brandi Dunkin and three step-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Monday, October 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Ed Eaton officiating and Selma Funeral Home Directing. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Curtis was born in Talladega and moved to Selma with the opening of the Hammermill Paper Company and retired after 35 years in the paper industry. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. He followed NASCAR and was an Avid Life Long Alabama Fan. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Samer Fahoum and Dr. Seydi Aksut. Active pallbearers will be Chris Poe, Joey Raybon, Don Perry, Josh Collins, Lynn McAfee and Jerry Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Raybon, Robert Tate, Robert Sammons, Earnest Barton and Anthony Steele. Flowers are appreciated or the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, 75-20 Astoria Blvd Jackson Heights, NY 11370 or online at www.spinalcord.org.
