Hilda Ruth Carter Griffin, formerly of Stanton and Selma, Alabama, entered Heaven July 14th, 2018 as a member of the Body of Christ. Her children Gayle, David and Sonya had the extraordinary privilege to peacefully sing her into Heaven. Her faith in Christ was strong. She was always a faithful witness for Christ and a shining example for her family and friends.
Hilda was born September 25, 1927 at home in Stanton, Alabama. She graduated class valedictorian from Maplesville High School in 1946. She married Gene Willis in 1947 and had two children, Gayle and David. In 1960 she married Sammy Griffin and completed her family of five in 1961 when she had Sonya. They made their home in Burnsville, Alabama where they remained until all the children were grown. They then bought the Carter home place in Stanton, Alabama where Hilda grew up. Sammy passed away in 2005 and she remained in Stanton until 2011 when, due to her health, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to live with Gayle and near Sonya and many other family members.
Hilda worked in many roles in business during her life, but her most treasured roles were as a child of God and daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very active in all her churches during her lifetime and was also a caregiver for her in-laws, Sam and Gladys Griffin; her mother, Ophelia Carter; and for her husband of 45 years, Sammy Griffin.
Hilda is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ophelia Carter; her husband, Sammy Griffin; her brothers, Henley, Burton and Donald Carter and her sister, Harold Cosby.
