Hugh Mallory, Iii

Hugh Mallory, III died November 21, 2019 at the age of 87.   Mr. Mallory was born on June 25, 1932 in Selma to Hugh Mallory, Jr. and Thecla Matson Mallory.  He was preceded in death by Virginia Suttle Mallory, his wife of 59-1/2 years.  He is survived by two daughters, Thecla Harper of Houston, Texas and Jennie Lukac (Eugene) of Naples, Florida, his brother-in-law’s wife Harriet Suttle (J. Freeman) and his sister-in-law Mary Suttle Payne (Stanley) of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Mallory grew up in Selma as well as several other cities.  He was a Congressional Page for Congressman Samuel Francis Hobbs for about 1 year in 1944-1945.  He graduated from A.G. Parrish High School in Selma in June of 1950, attended The University of the South at Sewanee, Tenn., and transferred to the University of Alabama.  While at both schools he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  He was commissioned a lieutenant in the Army of the U.S. in 1954 and served for two years during which time he and Virginia Suttle were married at Pine Flat Baptist Church on June 4, 1955.

After completion of his military service Mr. Mallory returned to the University of Alabama and received a BS in Engineering (Chemical) in June of 1958 and went to work for Texaco Inc. in the Research Department at Pt. Arthur, Texas.  Mr Mallory was transferred to the Marketing Department in Atlanta, GA in 1960 and they subsequently lived in a number of cities including Florence, AL, Columbia, SC, Raleigh, NC, Houston, TX, Dallas, TX and finally back to Houston, TX.  At the time of his retirement in 1993 he was the manager of the Western Region of the Texaco Lubricants Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Mallory joined the Episcopal Church in Port Arthur, TX in 1959 and continued to be active members of the Episcopal Church.  Mr. Mallory served two terms on the vestry at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Selma and while on the vestry served as both Junior Warden and Senior Warden.  He was a member of The Knights of Revelry.

The family appreciates the love and support given to him by all of his friends and the community of Selma.

A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 11 AM with visitation beginning at 10 AM.  Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Columbarium.
