Hugo Dale Smith Senior Master Sargent, Retired, United States Air Force, passed away on February 15, 2022 at his home in Waynesville, North Carolina. He was 92 years old. He was a native of Chilton County, Alabama and after he retired from the Air Force, lived most of his life in Selma Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Eula Trawick Smith, his first wife Gertiewyl Smith; his second wife Sylvia Smith; brothers James Smith; George Smith; and Don Smith; his sisters, Mildred Bruner and Margaret Hays; and his stepson, Terry Stone.
He is survived by his brother Kenneth B Smith; stepchildren, Rod (Patsy) Stone, Janice Pelfrey, Toni (John) Siverling; many nieces, nephews and his step-grandchildren.
He graduated from Chilton County High School in May 1947 and enlisted in the Army the following day. He later transferred to the Air Force and remained on active duty until he retired in 1972.
After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken for more than 25 years where he earned the nickname "Mr. Chicken Man".
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb 22 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Pineview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 on Tuesday at the funeral home.
