Mrs. India Marie Hayes Strickland, affectionately known as “Rie Rie” to her family and friends, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the age of 84. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Strickland; her mother, Mary Cook; her sister, Voncile Alburl; and her brothers, Billy and Edward Hayes.
She leaves behind a loving family: son, Chris (Beverly) Strickland; grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Potvin, Blanton Strickland, Brent (Aimee) Strickland and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Faulk & Julia Stabler.
A dedicated homemaker, Marie found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep love for working in her yard, planting flowers that brightened each season. She also enjoyed reading, sitting on her porch, and feeding the birds. She could often be found with a good book or crossword puzzle in hand, soaking in the quiet moments of life.
Marie had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making others laugh. Whether it was through a funny story or just her infectious laughter, she brought joy to everyone around her. Her warmth, kindness, and lighthearted spirit will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Throughout life’s ups and downs, she always reminded her loved ones, “This too shall pass.” Her wisdom and steady presence brought comfort to those around her, and her words will continue to guide those she left behind.
