J. Burkhalter

J. D. "Buck" Burkhalter, age 80, of Valley Grande, AL, passed away May 15, 2010. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Burkhalter and brothers, Howard Burkhalter and John Patterson. Surviving are his wife, Irene Burkhalter; son, Jimmy (Sandi) Fluker; daughters, Peggy (David) Etheridge and Elaine (Kenneth) Lovelady; brothers, Herschel Burkhalter and Curtis Burkhalter; grandchildren, Cody Lovelady, Logan Lovelady, Scott (Melanie) Etheridge and Ashley E. (Daniel) Roberts and great-grandchildren, Shane Parten, Alex Parten, Kayleigh Etheridge, Colton Roberts, Jonathan Etheridge and Brody Roberts. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Living Waters Worship Center with Rev. Wayne Craft and Rev. Buddy Salsman officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. The family received friends on Monday, May 17, 2010. Pallbearers will be Logan Lovelady, LaDon Dunkin, Daniel Roberts, Rick Barrett, Ricky Robinson and Johnny Ray Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Wilson, Gordon Spencer, Tom McCray and Ronnie Wallace. Mr. Burkhalter served in the U.S. Army Corps from 1946-1949. He took part in the occupation of Japan and served under General MacArthur. He earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation in Japan medal. While stateside, he served in the Army National Guard for three years and he held the rank of Sergeant when he finished his service.
