James Earl Drinkard passed away January 2, 2025 at the age of 80. He was born May 29, 1944 to the late George Earl Drinkard and Gracie Loraine Stifflemire Drinkard.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julie Walker Drinkard; daughter, Fran (Wood) Spivey and grandchildren, Ally Spivey, Wood Spivey, IV.
A proud alumnus of A.G. Parish High School, class of 1963, James furthered his education at Troy State University, where he laid the groundwork for a fruitful career that would occupy much of his adult life. For 42 years, James lent his expertise to Bush Hog, serving diligently in the research and development graphics department. His talents shone brightly, culminating in his esteemed role as Graphics Manager until his retirement in 2009.
Renowned not only for his professional contributions but also for the calm demeanor that characterized his interactions, James was a man with an expansive heart. He epitomized kindness and possessed an innate ability to connect with those around him. A true embodiment of gentle strength, he found joy in the company of dogs, pouring love into training his hunting companions. His affinity for nature extended beyond the realm of training; James found serenity and solace along the picturesque waters of Destin, Florida, as well as in leisurely rounds of golf that allowed him to savor life’s simple pleasures.
Not confined to a singular pursuit, his interests were diverse and enriching. In years past, he embraced the thrill of tennis and reveled in the camaraderie of deer and turkey hunting, always accompanied by his loyal hunting dogs. These cherished pastimes reflected his zest for life and his appreciation for the great outdoors.
