James Mitchell Hubbard, age 66, passed away Monday May 25, 2009. Born May 7, 1943, Jim Hubbard graduated A.G. Parrish High School in Selma, Alabama. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and served as its president in 1966. He began work for Arthur Young Co. (Ernst & Young) and earned his C.P.A. Certificate in 1972. In subsequent years he worked for Motion Industries, (later a subsidiary of Genuine Parts Co.) and in the early 1980���s became partner in a Birmingham CPA firm, where he developed a software program. In 1985, Hubbard founded Jim Hubbard & Associates, now Hubbard Systems, Inc. Over the past 25 + years, Jim���s determination, creativity and leadership made Hubbard one of the nation���s premier software development firms specializing in debt collection. He is recognized throughout the industry for his integrity and high professional standards set by his company. In 2000, The Birmingham Chamber of Commerce named Hubbard ���Small Business Person of the Year��� for mid-range size companies, which acknowledges the recipient���s contributions to the Birmingham region and economy. Under Jim���s direction; Hubbard Systems, Inc. has been a cooperate sponsor of the Children���s Hospital Festival of Trees and the American Liver Foundation; Hubbard also served as a member of its board of directors. Hubbard also served on the Board of Directors for the UAB Liver Center and he and his wife, Margaret, served together on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Chapter of National Kidney Foundation. Jim���s photography, including thousands of photos of family and friends will be enjoyed forever and leaves a most valuable history of a life so admirably lived.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Crumpton Hubbard and Lawrence Thorton Hubbard, of Minter, AL. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Darden Hubbard, son James Richard Hubbard, sister, Barbara Hubbard Hungerpiller, nephews, Ralph Mitchell Hungerpiller, and Robert Michael Hungerpiller.
Graveside services will be held at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery (located on Dallas County Rd. 12), on Sunday May 31, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Crumpton Plantation on Sunday Prior to the graveside service.
