James Ray Carter, 79 of Selma passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Marie Carter and brother-in-law, Thomas Tanton.
James devoted his life to serving the Lord and leading others to Christ. He was active in The Gideons International for 38 years and a faithful member of Barrett Road United Methodist Church. To know him was to love him and James will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Carter; daughters, Jan (Allen) Barrett, Dianne Cooper (Julian Smith) and Tricia Carter (Doug Stewart); granddaughters, Ashley Goodman, Katie Cooper (Adam) Dye and Madison Church (Russell Golson); great-granddaughter, Sophie Goodman; sister, Dorothy Tanton and cousin, Bobby (Kathleen) Browning.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Monday, June 28, 2021 with the service beginning at 11:00 am at Barrett Road United Methodist Rev. Travis Barnes and Rev. Robert Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Allen Barrett, Doug Stewart, Adam Dye and Russell Golson. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Browning and Julian Smith.
The family wishes to thank everyone at Southern Care Hospice for their support and dedication.
