James Calhoun Rutledge, 83, of Selma, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 19, 2008. Services will be held Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, Lauderdale, at 2:00 PM with Reverend Jack Lovelace officiating; burial at New Live Oak Cemetery. Mr. Rutledge is survived by Bettye Ralston, his wife of 60 years; his daughters, Anne Denise Rutledge of Tampa, FL; Beverly Jean Rutledge of Selma and Bettye Lynn Rutledge of Jacksonville, FL; his grandson Grand Alex Rutledge-Boone of Selma; his sisters-in-law, Anne Ralston Linch Poindexter (Clarence), of Casa Grand, AZ, Jeanette Ralston Ham (Lewis) of Selma, Marlene Ralston Little (Jerry) of Selma; brothers-in-law, Elton Ralston (Claire) of Selma, Edward Ralston (Sybil) of Sea Island, GA. Mr. Rutledge is preceded in death by his parents, William D. Rutledge and Callie Roy Rutledge and his older brother, William Furniss Rutledge of Selma, AL. He was also preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Faye R. McLendon (Billy) and Alice R. Carter (Brooks). Pallbearers will be Gordon McLendon, Randy Mobley, Ryan Linch, Kenny Ross, Russell Ralston and Micheal Little. Born on September 19, 1924, Mr. Rutledge was a native of Selma, AL. He graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was known for his love of cars and knowledge of electronics; always willing to lend a helping hand where needed. Mr. Rutledge was a member of the Central Alabama Region Car Club and the British Car Club in Montgomery, AL. He will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
