Church, community and civic leader, Jane Barry Pollack, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday April 19, 2011. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 12, 1932 to Ford and Louise Barry, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Charles Victor Pollack; five children whom she adored, Jonas Hartsell Stewart III (Shannon), Margaret Stewart McDonald (Stuart), James Andrew Stewart (Rebecca) and Charles Victor Pollack Jr. (Gloria); she also has 10 grandchildren who were her heart and delight, Evelyn Stewart, Mary Stewart, Jane Anne Stewart, Louise Stewart, Malcolm McDonald, Sarah Jane McDonald, Kurt Pollack, Bailey Pollack, Thomas Slaught and Carolina Pollack. Being a mother and grandmother was her greatest joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jonas Hartsell Stewart, Jr. and her son Ford Barry Stewart.
Jane was raised in Winchester, Virginia and graduated in Dietetics from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. She practiced that profession for over 50 years and was recently honored for her devotion to her work. She has also been honored for her many accomplishments in her work at Church Street United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, including the Bereavement committee and acted as longtime President of the Mary Sweeney Friendship Class. As a community and civic leader she has served on many boards including, West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center, Salvation Army and SABRA Sanctuary.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 23, 2011 at Church Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred Zeigler officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends in the Calhoun Parlor of Church Street United Methodist from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
Active Pallbearers will be Clint Wilkinson, III, Dick Dunaway, Jim Sims, Paul Garner, Web Manderson, III, Hart Sims, III, Lane Brackin and Jeff Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard DeBray, Dr. J.T. Downard, Bob Hollis, S.L. Gantt and Catesby Jones.
