Jane Evelyn Louise Stephens Singley, a remarkable woman whose unwavering dedication to education and love for her family and friends touched the hearts of many. Jane was born in Eufaula, Alabama on June 18, 1949 to the late Julian Ernest Stephens, Sr. and Cora Lee Romine Stephens, and peacefully passed away on March 9, 2024.
Throughout her illustrious career spanning nearly four decades, Jane made a significant impact on countless students' lives. Starting her journey at Saudi Arabia International School as a teacher and principal and later at John T. Morgan Academy as a high school math teacher, she dedicated herself to shaping young minds until her well-deserved retirement from the Dallas County School System in 2016.
Jane's passion for education was paralleled by her diverse talents and hobbies. She graduated from Wallace Community College in 1978 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Judson College. Her creativity knew no bounds - from sewing beautiful clothing for loved ones to crafting intricate ceramic pieces, she put her heart and soul into everything she did. Jane also devoted her summers to The Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society and Charlie The Tin Man Art Camp, where she inspired children to unleash their creative spirits. Her fondest memories of the annual summer art program though, was when her grandchildren would spend part of their summer with her to embellish in her creative spirit.
Jane was known for her caring nature and infectious smile. She had a heart that loved big and a spirit that uplifted those around her. During her retirement, she dedicated years to volunteering with Russell Rescue and Altstatt Terrier Transport, where she helped transport dogs to their forever homes - logging tens of thousands of miles along the way. Anyone who knew our sweet "Mama Jane" knows how much she adored not just her fur-babies, but everyone's. Mama Jane's boundless love for her family and friends was matched only by her affection for their canine companions, to whom she devoted endless care and attention. Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished forever by all who knew her. Savoring in her final few years of retirement, she found solace in tending to her immaculate yard, where you could find her almost daily - cutting grass, picking up pine cones, sweeping pine straw and tending to a place where she could find contentment, peace and beauty.
She adored her family including her daughters, Tonya (Randy) Harris, Kami (Chris) Borden; was "Gramme" to her grandchildren, Kirstin (Tyler) Linney, Carter Borden, Kinslee Borden, Taylor Borden and Kassidy Harris; great-granddaughter Peyton "PJ" Linney; a sister to Julia (Tom) Harrison, Steve (Tamara) Stephens and Susan (Scott) Wilson; and was "Mama Jane" to her "adoptive children", Kenneth and Jennifer Martin and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends who were touched by her warm spirit.
A graveside service to honor Jane's life will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page,
