Janie was a nurse, but her care for people went far beyond the physical. She never met a stranger and had a genuine spirit that would uplift anyone she met. Janie was a selfless person who would put her needs aside for others. She spent nearly 30 years as a nurse specializing in adolescent care. She was a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse in California, DHR Nurse in Colorado, and a school nurse at Prattville High School . Janie cared so deeply for others she insisted on continuing to help others part-time during her treatment at a local doctors office in Selma. She loved children, especially babies. In 2000, her and her husband became foster parents to help provide a home for babies with special needs. Through the foster care system she provided care and support for numerous children over the years.
Janie was often referred to as Grammy. She was adamant that she would not be the traditional "Grandma." She loved and cherished her grandchildren. She spent several weeks traveling across the country to spend time with her grandson in Colorado. Janie had the opportunity to cut one of her grandson's umbilical cord. She would never let them know she was suffering and push through any obstacles to be there for as many of the children's activities. During the past year, Janie spent most weekends at the motocross track, reminiscing on her days working the snack bar in California while her son raced. She had the opportunity to watch her grandsons race in Colorado and Alabama. She was blessed to watch both grandsons race with each other this year.
Janie was a thrift shopper. One of her favorite hobbies was shopping for the best deals and lightly used children's clothes and toys. She opened a consignment children's store after her oldest daughter, Katies Kottage, in Ramona California where she got to do what she loved. Since moving to Alabama, Janie had the talent of sniffing out great deals on children items and reselling them through flea markets and consignment sales.
The Rose Family will hold a celebration of life for Janie in the coming months.
